Welcome to Half Baked, the newsletter serving up startup ideas as surprising as OpenAI slowing model development on purpose 😲

In today's edition:

  • 💡 A new take on an old study tool + more

  • ⛽️ A five-bot army, $0 to $1M in 90 days, five pivots + more

  • 🔍 $400M raise, Marc Andreessen, a robot Superman + more

  • 🍻 Making bedtime 10x more personal

Let's goooo 🚀

💸 T-Mobile x Half Baked: We've partnered with T-Mobile this week to give one Half Baked reader a new MacBook Neo. To be in with a shout, just:

📱 Flashcard Texts

Total Recall

👤 Source: Nick Vasilescu (co-founder at Orgo) reckons the best study tool is the one you can't forget to use - and you never forget to check your texts.

Problem:

  • Quizlet has 60 million monthly users and 900 million study sets. It also has a 1.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 500+ reviews. Anki has a cult following among med students and looks like it was designed during the Bush administration. Beloved method, brutal product - that's the whole category.

  • But the UX isn't the killer. It's that revision needs you to remember to open an app. You forget most of what you learn within 24 hours, and the five-minute review that would have saved it is sitting behind a home screen icon you stopped tapping in March.

Solution:

  • A platform that creates and sends flashcards to you via text to revise. Cards arrive through the day at properly spaced intervals, you answer in the thread, and anything you get wrong comes back an hour later.

  • The chat bubble is the touchpoint, not the product. Underneath sits a real app where you build decks, set schedules and see what you're actually retaining versus what keeps slipping.

🧑‍💻 Prototyping: Google AI Studio Demo | Remix this Build

💡 The Half Baked Take: Texting is a cool UI, but watch the unit economics: texts cost money per send, so a heavy user doing 30 cards a day is a real cost line rather than a free tier.

💰 We Got Founders a Better Deal Than Their Current Carrier

Most SMB phone plans creep up every year until you're paying double for the same coverage. We worked with T-Mobile for Business to get Half Baked readers a straight up deal: switch 10 or more lines to the CoreMobile plan and pay $20 a line a month.

Switch to the T-Mobile for Business CoreMobile plan and get an extra $150 back per line too, no cap on how many lines qualify. Same numbers, same devices, just a lower bill.*

*10 lines for $200/mo; each additional line $20/mo./line with Autopay; plus taxes & $35 device connection charge. $150/line credit via one-time bill credit.

💡 Ideas to Inspire You

💻️ SaaS: Product Hunt has been around forever. This guy thinks you could build a new version of this in 2026.

📱 Mobile App: Hate posing for photos? Me too. That’s why someone should probably build an app that teaches you how to pose.

🛍️ E-commerce: If you’ve been to the gym lately you might have seen a lot of lifters eating candy. Here’s why that’s a gigantic opportunity.

🤖 Hardware: We think there’s a big opportunity to build a single-use device in the meditation space. Here’s the breakdown.

💵 Side Hustle: This guy turned $8 into $1,000 in 24 hours doing this. Kinda genius.

⛽️ Fuel for Taking Action

🎓 Founder Tutorial: Peter Yang set up five Grok bots to build the closest thing yet to a personal AI agent I’ve seen. Here’s how.

🛠️ AI Tool: Alex Finn just broke down not one tool, but the whole stack you need to be a top AI user.

📘 Playbook: Someone on Reddit mapped out the exact plan they'd run to go from $0 to $1M in 90 days. Take the timeline with a pinch of salt, but keep the structure.

💸 Founder Deal: Google for Startups Cloud gives eligible founders up to $200,000 in credits over two years.

🤑 Money Shot: How five pivots, one open source bet, and a Patrick Collison tweet built a $1.4 billion developer platform.

👥 Your To-Do List Needs Another Pair of Hands

Building a business means the list grows faster than the team. The design job, landing page or research project you keep pushing back still needs doing - just not necessarily by you.

Upwork makes it easy to find skilled freelance talent, compare your options, hire the right person and get quality work moving on a short-term project without adding a permanent role.

Make your first hire through Upwork and you’ll get a $50 gift card.

🔍️ Everything Else from Today

💰 Bag Secured: Higgsfield just raised $400M at a $5.4B valuation. AI video is not slowing down.

📚 Must-Read: A flight conversation. A five-minute chat at a conference. This great piece breaks down why the best opportunities never look like opportunities at the time.

📺 Must-Watch: Marc Andreessen just broke down why he chases satisfaction rather than happiness. Great life advice.

🤖 Big Breakthrough: Unitree's new "Superman" robot does a 2m standing high jump and hits 12.66 m/s - past every human record on both. I love technology.

⭐️ Reader's Pick: Sahil Bloom reckons this is a $100K per month side hustle. (Yesterday's top link)

🍺 Drunk Business Idea: Story Cradle

  • Away for work again when bedtime rolls around? Wish you could do more than watch a propped-up iPad slowly slide behind the cot?

  • Introducing CradleCam™, a soft-bodied robot with two padded arms that cradle and rock your child, and a big camera-screen for a face so you can beam in and read the story yourself. Rocking speed adjustable from "gentle" to "ferry crossing".

  • CradleCam™ - Arm's length parenting.
